Summer Day Camps
Come and Join us for Fun and Adventure at Mamalina’s Montessori Preschool Summer Day Camps!
Each week will be a different theme, packed full of music, arts and crafts, storytime and outdoor activities! Our Focus is on Fun!!!
Please note our Summer Day Camps are open to all children ages 2 1/2 to 5 years. They do not need to be presently enrolled in Mamalina’s Montessori Preschool Programs. *Themes may vary for certain weeks
Week 1 – July
Colour me a Rainbow
We will begin this week with a hands on comprehensive exploration of the different shades, grades and textures of colour around us and all over the world. We will use our senses to dive into finger-painting, creating masterpieces of art. We will explore the family of colours from primary to tertiary and of course to the realization that black and white are not really colours at all!!! We will explore the magic of colours and what happens when we mix them together. Reaching the end of our rainbow we will discover the treasures that lie within as we paint under the sky with our art easels making our own rainbow masterpiece.
Week 2 – July
The Art of Construction
It’s tool time, so let’s get busy! Architects to be, this is the week for you! The possibilities are endless as we explore several angles of building structures using lots of different materials. Our workbench will be the center of activity as our creative minds hammer away. We will begin our week by putting on our sponge painted tool aprons and building our own birdhouses to take home
Week 3 – July
Tantalizing Tastes
Open up those taste buds and let the baking begin! To introduce the week we will create and personalize our own gourmet chef hats. This will put us in the mood for a family favourite – PIZZA – with extra cheese – while movin’ and grovin’ to Charlotte Diamond’s Je suis un Pizza! With our baking talents in full force, and our ovens hot we will fill the air with the scent of rosemary shortbread, together with our traditional favourite mint lemonade made fresh every morning. This will be a fantastic week as we experiment with our sense of taste from sweet to sour and from salty to spicy!! Our creative campers will take home their own personalized cookbook with recipes!
Week 4 – July
Movin’ and Groovin’ with YOGA
Lets get groovy and shake way down low and back up high to fly in style with our own yoga instructor for the week! We will make our own yoga pose books! It’s a week to stretch our minds and bodies while perking our ears to the sounds of music and dance. Everyone will make an instrument to party with. We will open each day with a calming breath of yoga and groove into a morning of movement and joy with a large array of music from jazz, to rock to classical creating our own funky beats. Downward dog, Cat/Cow, and childpose will end our day and calm our bodies to prepare for the days next adventure! Visit from the librarian – sitting in stillness and open to listening ......
Week 5 – August 4-day week
Through the Garden
Let’s get down and dirty!! Immersing our hands into rich soil and feeling textures of the earth. We will begin our gardening week by modge podging terra cotta pots, putting on our sponge painted gloves and getting to work. Using our plant pots, we will create an herb garden – fresh scented mint, rosemary and thyme. During the week we will also experience different seeds and beans by making collages and the ever-stunning sunflower!! We will end our week by putting on our garden hats and celebrate the earth and it’s beauty with a tea party!!
Week 6– August
Around the World
Binoculars in hand and away we go!! Is it an airplane? A Train? A Boat? An Automobile? Or a Hot Air Balloon? The possibilities are endless this week as we travel around the world using different modes of transportation. Each continent shall be a discovery in itself from the North American Grizzly Bear to the South African Zebra! Polar Bears and Penguins Galore!! We will have a our road map out with an assortment of vehicles to choose from as well as a train station set. For the passion of imagination and play, this is the week of exploration!!
Week 7 August
Down by the Sea
Where the sand crystals glitter!! We will begin this water week discovering the shades and textures of sand in our ‘sand table’ from different beaches around the world and the tiny creatures that burrow beneath like – Dungeness Crab!!! We will create our own glass aquarium along with a sand collage with lots of different types of seashells after a peaceful and intriguing walk on the beach. In keeping with our sea theme, we will discuss life under the water. Our talented seamen will be listening and dancing to seashore tales as we endeavor to create jellyfish mobiles and Octopi! What would the ocean be without the slippery fish to end our week!
Week 8 August
Tuned into Music
It’s a week to perk our ears and pique or awareness to high and low pitch sounds through music and dance while using our handmade instruments. We will begin each day by tuning into music by listening to different artists. We may even have a visit from our wonderful music teacher.... This will pique our awareness for different pitch and notes in music. We will be making drums, shakers and tambourines this week!
